In May 2009, South Carolina signed into law a bill that would update the telecommunications law of the state to encourage further investment in broadband and new technologies. The bill, the Customer Choice and Technology Investment Act (formerly H. 3299/S. 295), encourages further deployment and adaptation of broadband and digital technologies, which in turn benefits local economies and small businesses. By updating its telecom laws, South Carolina has given companies an incentive to invest even more in new technologies and service, which means even more technology options for consumers.
