Consumers stand to benefit from Communications Modernization and Lifeline Improvement Act
MONTGOMERY, AL – Citizens for a Digital Future, a national coalition that supports public policies that encourage broad deployment, transparency and robust enhancement of broadband and digital technologies, commends the supporters of The Communications Modernization and Lifeline Improvement Act, SB373, which passed the Alabama Senate yesterday.
John Watson, Chairman of Citizens for a Digital Future, released the following statement:
“Citizens for a Digital Future applauds the Alabama Senate for taking a step towards providing Alabamians with increased access to broadband and digital technologies. Broadband technology has become critically important to the environment, education, health care and economic development, and all Alabama citizens deserve access to the benefits provided by broadband technologies.
“The Communications Modernization and Lifeline Improvement Act encourages Alabama consumers to adopt and use Lifeline and Link-up. In these difficult economic times, many Alabama families are feeling the financial crunch. It is crucial to strengthen these programs that help pay for more families to stay connected.
“Consumers stand to benefit by greater choice and competition created by this bill. As state-to-state competition for investment increases, it is vital that Alabama continue to remain attractive for new investment and new jobs. We applaud the State Senate for their leadership in passing this important bill for Alabama consumers and look forward to passage by the State House as well.”
